Thierry Henry's Top 20 Goals - Watch
4 - Vs Madrid 2006
Henry picks up the ball inside the centre circle and with a mixture of pace and power he goes past three Madrid players before galloping into the box. Still on the move and going away from goal, he shoots across Casillas and into the far corner. A radar of a shot which enabled us to be the first English team to win at the Bernabeu and furthered our progress in the competition.
3 - Vs Liverpool 2004
Without Henry's intervention in this game, we would not have the Invincibles. About thirty-five yards from goal, a small burst of pace takes him past a Scouse midfielder. He is now on the cusp of the box. A shimmy, a dummy, a little movement leaves Carragher so twisted he trips on his own legs and falls on the deck. Henry continues his burning pilgrimage into the box before a sidefoot finish across the keeper that gives us the lead. Henry's celebration showed how much it meant to him. Holy sardines Batman.
2 - Vs Sparta Prague 2005
It was the goal that gave him the title of "Record goalscorer for Arsenal". To do so with this goal sums him up perfectly. Trapping the airborne ball with unconventional movement, he turns quickly outside the box. He is marshalled by two defenders but as the ball is still bouncing down to the turf, with the outside of his right wand, through a small gap inbetween the opposition defenders, he bends the ball to an impossible angle before it whips in again past the goalkeeper. This should carry an 18 certificate. Pure dirt.
1 - Vs Man United 2000
We have all seen this goal on loop. For good reason. Back to goal and a fair distance away. Irwin is breathing down his neck but Henry flicks it up and as the ball is rising he swings his right foot to send a delicious volley soaring over countryman Barthez. It gets no better than this. It belongs in the higher echelons of goals, alongside Zidane Vs Leverkusen. It has everything and carries the invisible watermark that indicates a world class talent. I miss him with every fibre of my being.
That is my definitive list and I have left out so many instances where Henry makes a mockery of the opposition, such as when he left Danny Mills waiting for the bus. What is evident is that - bias or not - Henry was the finest player the Premiership has ever seen and represented our club with aplomb.
