What Could Arsenal's Squad Look Like Next Season?

Who will be the number 1 in August? This year David Ospina (26) took over after Wojciech Szczesny (25) made silly errors in a game to forget, but what will happen when the new season kicks off?

The idea to loan out Szczesny to Southampton to replace the injured Fraser Forster in the short term is an idea I really like. It would allow Wenger to afford somebody of a higher calibre game time without the worry of having to lose Szczesny and lets him keep a close eye on Szczesny's progress as well.

It seems as if Petr Cech (33) does not want to move away from London which could make it the perfect deal for the Arsenal - although we have a certain Mourinho shaped obstacle to overcome if that is to happen. Emiliano Martinez (22) could also go on loan with Ryan Huddart (18) taking the 3^rd goalkeeper spot in the absence of the Argentinian.

The one who filled the defensive midfield void

The return of 24-year-old Francis Coquelin was the joker card of Wenger in the 2014/15 season. After coming back from Charlton Coquelin was not the happiest because he had been a regular starter for them. His chance to convince people of his attributes arrived when Wenger decided to let him start against West Ham. His will to intercept, going into tackles, winning aerial duels and staying strict to his position made him the catalyst for Arsenal turning their season around. A few poor January results aside, Arsenal were on the up with Coquelin in the team.

Despite Coquelin's work ethic and willingness to do the dirty work, Arsenal is missing a quality backup for him. Whereas Coquelin knows how to play the holding role for Arsenal, Mathieu Flamini (31) looks more and more lost there. Flamini is still covering the most kilometres per game for Arsenal, but his wrong positioning is an invitation for opponents to break through.

I would like to see Wenger make an enquiry about Morgan Schneiderlin (25) or Geoffrey Kondogbia (22). Both can do the job as well as Coquelin and could help the whole team to achieve new highs. I do not want to watch Arsenal get hit by another injury crisis. Depth and quality within that depth will make the team competitive.

Young Krystian Bielik (18) will get his chance in the future, but I do not see him near the first team yet. Flamini and the injury prone Abou Diaby I see leaving this summer. If Wenger wants to aim for major trophies in the upcoming season he has to choose ready-made quality over potential for immediate depth. Arteta is the perfect backup for the defensive position because he has the experience and technical ability to do his work without hesitation but we still need one more.
