The Great Escape is complete, as Arsenal advanced into the knockout stages of the Champions League. It was a surprisingly straightforward evening for us, as we got the job done with a goal to spare and Giroud bagged his first Arsenal hat-trick. There were some nervy moments and scares, but we were clearly the better team on the night and we deserved our victory.
More dropped points, more injuries and another frustrating result. Arsenal rounded off a miserable November with another poor result, this time at struggling Norwich. Statistically our worst month for points under Arsene Wenger, we stayed true to form and picked up just two from nine in games we should have expected maximum points from. Not only that, but the injury situation has gone from bad to worse, with a potential long term injury to Alexis and bad knocks to Cazorla and Koscielny.
Part one of the Champions League great escape was a breeze, as we cruised past Zagreb at the Emirates. It was not just an important victory in the context of staying alive in the Champions League, but for team morale. The team was in dire need of a positive result as injuries and poor form has seen our good start to the season stall somewhat. The result leaves our fate in the competition in our own hands, with a final day showdown in Greece to come.
