Job done. Saturday’s third round win wasn’t completely comfortable, but a rotated team got the job done. Despite some defensive wobbles, the players that came in stepped up and put in a pretty decent performance to kick off our challenge for a third consecutive FA Cup.
Arsenal welcomed in 2016 with a horrible, ugly win over Newcastle. In terms of performance, we were pretty awful and the team looked incredibly tired. But in terms of winning a title, it’s the sort of win that is invaluable. Everyone, the players and manager included, knows that we were terrible and yet we still have three points and a two point lead at the top.
So we reach the end of the year and the halfway point of the league at the top of the tree, at least until Leicester play City tonight. After a humbling at Southampton, a home game against Bournemouth was about as kind a game as we could have asked for and the Gunners duly delivered. It was a vital three points and perhaps more importantly, it will be a big confidence boost for some fragile players.
